Striving to the eternal home

We are striving to obtain the gift of eternal life.

When you visit the church of Christ you may find differences in how we worship.

We are not here for our entertainment but to worship God in spirit and Truth (John 4:24).

Sunday

Worship

Each Sunday we all gather to follow a structured service that follows the events established by Jesus and the apostles in the Bible. We worship God intentionally in spirit and truth (Matthew 22:37-38). We strive to put our whole heart into worshipping God (Matthew 15:8).

Prayer

We start and finish each worship service with a prayer.

As Paul instructed Timothy in 1 Timothy 2:1-2, we also offer prayer and supplication. We lift each other up in prayer and make our request and thanksgiving know to God (Philippians 4:6).

Singing

We are instructed to sing praises to the Lord. Our songs are also to be a tool of teaching God’s word ( Ephesians 5:19, Colossians 3:16-17)  Since there is no mention or instruction of worshipping with musical instruments but an emphasize on spiritual worship using only our voices (Colossians 3:16, 1 Corinthians 14:15, Ephesians 5:19-20, Hebrews 13:15), we only sing in acappella.

The Lord’s Supper

During the Lord’s supper we reflect on the suffering and death of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We remember the great sacrifice and what reasons he needed to go to the cross. We remember the blessings we gain through his death. The example was set by Jesus but delivered to the Christians by the apostles

(1 Corinthians 11:23-29 & 10:16-18).

Giving

Christians are commanded to give to the Lord cheerfully (2 Corinthians 9:6-7). Unlike the Old Testament, we are not given a specific amount but we are told to set aside from what we have prospered (1 Corinthians 16:1-2).  This is an obligation of members never a solicitation from visitors.

Preaching

Preaching is an important part of sharing God’s word. When Paul was gathered with the saints he preached God’s holy word (Acts 20:7). Through teaching we can reprove, rebuke, instruct, edify, and spread the gospel (2 Timothy 4:2). The word to christians is the power of God (1 Corinthians 1:18).

Sunday & Wednesday

Bible Study

We are told many times through the Bible how important it is to study God’s word.  We know God’s word can help us stand up against false teachings (1 Peter 2:1-2, 2 Timothy 2:2, 4:1-5). We must grow stronger in God’s word and one way is to dig deeper in his word together (Hebrews 5:12-14).

On Sunday we have two opportunities to do this. We have a Bible class before worship and following worship where we discuss the lesson and address any question about what was taught.

On Wednesday there is also another opportunity to open the word of God and learn from his inspired scripture.
